About the Studio

A quiet room on Tavistock Avenue.

Aoi Ink House began with a simple frustration: tattoo studios that felt like factories. Loud music, flash walls, and designs repeated on stranger after stranger. We wanted the opposite — a small, appointment-only room where every piece is drawn once, for one person, in silence broken only by the machine.

That choice has a price: time. Every piece here is one-on-one custom. A large-scale work carries ten or more hours of pure design before the needle touches skin; even a small piece is given around four. Nothing is traced from a screen or picked off a wall — you are not buying a pattern, but an original artwork that will exist once, on one person, for good.

We draw for the person, not the placement alone. Skin tone decides how colour settles and ages; muscle lines, bone structure and the arc of a shoulder decide where a composition breathes and where it breaks. And every draft is drawn by hand — we simply do not use AI to generate designs — because a piece meant to live on one body for decades deserves those hours.

Founded by Louisa Yu — tattooing since 2013 across China, Canada, Singapore and Australia — the studio is built around a style Singapore had barely seen: Neo-Japanese Traditional at full scale, flanked by Korean fine line and abstract work. Clients fly in from Melbourne, London and Tokyo for pieces photographed healed — because our reputation lives on skin, not on social media filters.

The Founder

Singapore's rare Neo-Japanese Traditional, personally executed.

Louisa’s thirteen-year journey spans three countries — two years tattooing in Shanghai, nine years refining her craft in Canada, and now home in Singapore. She is known for large-scale new Japanese traditional work, and just as at home with anime pieces and small-to-medium Japanese designs. The geisha is one of her most treasured subjects, and her full-colour work spans every classic Japanese motif — each piece hand-drawn around the body’s lines, made to last.

  • Neo-Japanese Traditional — almost impossible to find in Singapore
  • Specialising in large-scale work: full backpieces, full sleeves, full leg pieces.
  • Tattooing since 2013, across China, Canada, Singapore and Australia
